A little about me...

People often ask me how I ended up studying health coaching. About 8 years ago I was diagnosed with Sjogren's disease and rheumatoid arthritis. I tried a couple of different medications but didn't see a noticeable difference, so I asked my rheumatologist about diet changes. He said I could try cutting out night shades, but otherwise he didn't have any other suggestions. I did this and I noticed a difference. Around this same time, I started working on my master's degree in Integrative Health & Healing where I learned about Chinese medicine, chiropractic medicine, acupuncture, and a variety of other energy modalities. But what struck me most was the unit on herbal medicine and healing with food. I did more research and ended up enrolling in a health coaching program. I also started researching anti-inflammatory foods, immune boosting foods, foods to repair my gut, the effects of sugar, and the benefits of eating locally and seasonally. I experimented with changes on my own, talked with other people trying similar things, and implemented other changes like adding yoga, hiking and daily walks. After about a year, I was completely symptom free without any medications. I had also lost weight and had more energy. I still have occasional relapses but I can typically adjust my diet, activity and sleep habits, and I'm back on track. It changed my life. Now I hope to help others do the same thing for themselves.

Me with one of my inspirations to be healthy!
